GeoTag Photos Online

Privacy

Privacy Policy

GeoTag Photos Online is a static web application. Everything you see runs as JavaScript in your browser. There is no account system and no backend service that ever touches your photos.

Your photos

When you add a photo, it's held in your browser's memory as an ObjectURL. We read EXIF locally with exifr and write it locally with piexifjs. The download is produced by your browser's download dialog from an in-memory blob. None of that ever leaves your device.

Network calls we do make

  • Map tiles: Standard OpenStreetMap (or Esri satellite) tile requests for the visible map area. These contain no information about your photos.
  • Place search: When you type in the map search box, the text query is proxied through /api/geocode to Nominatim. We don't log it.
  • Geolocation: If you press "Use my location", the browser asks your OS for coordinates; nothing is sent to us.

Cookies and local storage

We don't set tracking cookies. Your recent place searches are kept in localStorage on your own device so the search dropdown can show history; clear it any time from your browser settings.

Analytics

This site does not currently run any analytics or advertising scripts. If that changes in the future, this page will be updated to reflect it before any such script goes live.

Children's privacy

The tool has no age gate because it collects nothing from anyone, regardless of age. There is no form to fill in and no account to create.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the update will appear on this page. Since the site doesn't collect contact details, we have no way to notify you directly, so check back if you have concerns.
